GDC Ajas organises Awareness programme on ‘Mental Health’
BANDIPORA, May 24: The Government Degree College (GDC) Ajas, Bandipora today organized a Mental Health Awareness programme in collaboration with District Mental Health Programme, District Hospital Bandipora.
The programme aimed to raise awareness about mental health issues and promote mental wellness, besides educating the attendees on the signs and symptoms of different mental health conditions.
Further, the programme aimed to sensitize the attendees regarding the strategies for coping with the stress and promoting mental wellness, promoting de-stigmatization of mental health issues and encouraging seeking help when needed.
The event included a series of presentations, and discussions by experts from District Mental Health Programme District Hospital Bandipora, Mental health professionals including Bilal Ahmad Mir (Clinical Psychologist), Rafia Bashir (Psychiatric Social worker) on topics such as depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia.
Question answer sessions on de-stigmatizing mental health issues and promoting help-seeking were also held during the event. Group discussions were particularly effective in promoting de-stigmatization of mental health issues and encouraging help-seeking.
Principal College, Dr Kousar Parveen said that the college is committed to host several such programmes in future to educate people especially students regarding mental health and related issues.
