GDC Kralpora celebrates ‘International Women’s Day’
KUPWARA, March 09: Government Degree College (GDC) Kralpora, in collaboration with District Social Welfare Office Kupwara, today organised a one-day conference to observe International Women’s Day under the aegis of G20 Summit 2023.
Principal Govt. Degree College Kupwara, Prof Mohd Shafi Lone presided over the event as chief guest.
The program was attended by various officers of District Administration Kupwara including Additional Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Ghulam Nabi Bhat, Dy. Superintendent of Police DAR Kupwara, Syed Mujahid Ul Haq, Sameeksha Sagar, and Station House Officer Kralpora, Ajaz Ahmad Shiekh.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Ghulam Mohd Bhat talked about a plethora of issues that concern women, social justice, education, technology.
He advised the female students to immerse themselves in productive discussions and debates apart from their usual academics.
The Principal of the host college and the patron of the event, Prof Dr Abdul Rashid Malik talked about the need to uplift women in terms of education. He laid stress on the need to impart education to girl children in order to empower them.
The Dy.SP DAR Kupwara highlighted the issue of crimes related to women and he raised awareness about legal advice necessary for obtaining your rights.
Dr Irfana Rehman Makhdoomi, Resource person talked about the contribution of women to the society throughout history. She also highlighted different forms of violence meted out to women: domestic, economic and sexual. She observed that this violence can only be erased once women raise their voice.
Refat Wani, another resource person, said that women are already empowered, and they are open-hearted. She also spoke about the different steps like education that can improve the lives of women.
Later, a speech competition on the theme Women Empowerment was organised in which students from different colleges, Tufail Ahmad Khatana, Sadaf Saleem and Ruqaya Gulzar from GDC Kralpora, BHSS Kralpora and GDC Kralpora respectively, bagged the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions.
International Women’s Day was also celebrated at Government Degree College Handwara, while another function was held at Public Park Bohipora Kupwara by NRLM/ JKRLM.
