GDC Mahanpur observes National Librarian’s Day
KATHUA, AUGUST 12: Government Degree College Mahanpur celebrated National Librarian’s Day by observing a series of events that honored the legacy of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the father of Library Science in India.
The celebration aimed to recognise the importance of libraries in education and to encourage the academic community’s engagement with library resources.
The event commenced with a solemn floral tribute to Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, acknowledging his monumental contributions to the field of library science. Faculty members, students and library staff participated in the ceremony, reflecting on the significance of his work in revolutionising library services and access to information.
The college Librarian, Nisha Bhagat delivered an insightful presentation showcasing the rich array of library sources available at GDC Mahanpur. The presentation highlighted the college library’s extensive collection of books, e-resources available through the college library website, Library OPAC, Important Links, current updates and the various services provided to support the academic needs of students and faculty.
In a gesture of appreciation, gifts were distributed to the dedicated library staff for their continuous efforts in maintaining and enhancing the library’s services.
The event concluded with the announcement of the “Best Reader of the Year” award, which was presented to a deserving student Ajay Sandhuria of semester 3rd who demonstrated exceptional dedication to utilising the library’s resources for academic excellence.
The Principal Dr. Sangita Sudan emphasised the vital role of libraries in education and encouraged students to make full use of the library facilities to enhance their learning experience.
