GDC Nubra conducts Student Council Election for 2023-24 session
LEH, Aug 4: Govt Degree College Nubra conducted Student Council Election for the session 2023-24 today. The notification was issued by Chief Election Commissioner/ Principal, Dr. Tsewang Motup on July 26 and the last date for submitting the nomination file was July 28 till 4 pm.
The election was held for the post of student council President, Vice- President, General Secretary along with Treasurer, and the process started with brief elaboration of the rules and regulations of the electoral process by Returning Officer, Rinchen Angmo.
A total of six candidates filed their nomination with the Returning Officer and after scrutiny all were found eligible. The voting process was carried out under the supervision of officers Returning Officer, Rinchen Angmo; Sector Magistrate, Mohd. Mussa; Presiding Officer, Tsewang Lhamo; Polling Officer 1, Mohd, Murtaza and Polling Officer 2, Tsering Angmo.
Further, election process took place smoothly and democratically without any malpractice, and counting of votes was also done on the same day in the presence of the respective polling agents of each candidate.
Results were declared and Mohd. Ali, from 3rd Semester, was elected as President; Murtaza Ali from 5th Semester as Vice President; Najma Begum from 5th Semester as General Secretary and Ghulam Mohammad, from 3rd Semester as treasurer.
Additionally, Returning Officer, and Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), Dr. Tsewang Motup presented the Certificate of Election on August 3 and Swearing-in ceremony was also held on the same day. The CEC also administered the oath of office to the newly elected members of the student council.
The Principal congratulated the elected representatives and expressed his hope that they will become a bridge between the College authorities and the student community and work for the welfare of both students and the college.
He exhorted the newly elected members to be responsible and sincere in carrying out their duties. He also assured all the possible support to the Students Council.
The election process was conducted in a fair and democratic way, through which, the college authorities tried to create awareness amongst the students as per Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP), which is a flagship program of the Election Commission of India.
