GDC Ramgarh conducts cleanliness drive around Water Body near College Campus
SAMBA, MAY 24: The NSS Unit ‘Prabha’, of Government Degree College, Ramgarh, conducted a cleanliness drive around a water body located near the campus here under the aegis of Mission Life initiative of the Government of India and India’s Presidency in the G20.
The drive was conducted under the supervision and leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Geetanjali Andotra, Principal of the College.
Highlighting the importance of cleanliness, she said that our cherished way of life depends on clean water. Healthy ecosystem provides habitat to wildlife and places to marine life. “Our economy depends on clean water for manufacturing, farming, tourism, recreation, energy production, and other economic sectors. Clean water is vital to our health, communities, and economy” she maintained. She congratulated the NSS unit ‘Prabha’ for carrying out such activities of socio-economic importance at regular intervals.
Dr. Shamsher Lal, NSS Programme Officer, briefed the participants about the proceedings of the event. He told the volunteers about the ‘Clean Water Rule’. “The ‘Clean Water Rule’ protects streams and wetlands that are scientifically shown to have the greatest impact on downstream water quality and form the foundation of our nation’s water resources” he said.
Dr. Rahul Kundal, member of the NSS Committee, said that it’s essential to understand the importance of clean water and sanitation. Water covers more than 70 % of Earth’s surface. It was in water that life on Earth started. Water is a vital need, a home, a local and global resource, a transport corridor and a climate regulator.
The NSS volunteer, along with the NSS Committee members, visited the nearby water body and carried out the cleanliness drive. The participants collected the waste and disposed of it at the designated site.
The faculty members including Dr. Shamsher Lal, Dr. Rahul Kundal, Dr. Ashish Kumar, Sanjeev Thappa, Ashish Ohri and Reedima Dabgotra accompanied the volunteers to the nearby water body.
