GDC Ramgarh conducts Plantation Drive on College Campus
SAMBA, January 19: The National Service Scheme unit ‘Prabha’ of Government Degree College Ramgarh conducted a plantation drive on the campus here today.
The drive was conducted on day-two of the ongoing ‘7 Days NSS Special Winter Camp’ under the banners of ‘My College My Pride’ and ‘My Town My Pride’. The drive was conducted under the able guidance and leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Satinder Kaur, the Principal of the College.
On the occasion, she said that tree plantation is not just something that should be done; instead, it is a necessity, the urgent need of the hour. Planting trees is especially important to protect our environment against air pollution and global warming. She elaborated that the young volunteers should actively participate in organizing tree plantation campaigns.
Considering the manifold benefits of trees, including that they release oxygen into the air, absorb unpleasant odours as well as harmful gases such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and sulfur dioxide from the air and purify it, protect us from dangerous ultraviolet rays, provide us with food and the pivotal role played by trees in preventing soil erosion, maintaining ecological balance and most especially in lessening the effects of global warming. Besides all these benefits, trees and plants enhance the ambience of the plantation areas and surroundings.
Dr. Shamsher Lal, the NSS Programme Officer, motivated the NSS volunteers to participate in such activities with zeal and enthusiasm. He encouraged them to plant more and more trees and plants for environmental conservation and sustainability.
The plants, including mango plant, loquat plant, peach plant, some flower plants, et cetera, were brought by the faculty members, the NSS volunteers and other students. Moreover, the NSS volunteers of the College dug the holes in the ground of the campus. Thereafter, the College Principal, faculty members and volunteers planted these plants and watered them adequately.
Many other activities of importance to environment and the society will be conducted by the NSS unit ‘Prabha’ of the College in the coming days. The Camp will conclude on 25th of January, 2023.
