GDC Ramgarh organises Rally on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’
SAMBA, JANUARY 24: The National Service Scheme unit ‘Prabha’ of Government Degree College Ramgarh organised a rally on ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ as an extension activity on the day-six of the ongoing 7-Day NSS Special Winter Camp under the banners of ‘My College My Pride’ and ‘My Town My Pride’ initiatives.
The camp was conducted under the supervision and leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Satinder Kaur, the Principal of the College. She said that ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ (Save the Daughter, Educate the Daughter) is a campaign launched by the Government of India. She explained that female foeticide has led to a sharp drop in the ratio of girls born in contrast to boy infants in some states in India. Ultrasound technology has made it possible for pregnant women and their families to learn the sex of a foetus early in a pregnancy.
Discrimination against girl infants, for several reasons, has combined with the technology to result in a rise in abortions of foetuses identified as female during ultrasonic testing. In order to curb this social issue, the Government of India has formed a National Executive Committee to promote ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ across the country.
The committee is organizing several programs to promote “Save Girl Child” and “to Educate Girl Child” since January 2015. Further, she added that the College has always performed its social responsibilities towards the society through such extension activities.
Dr. Shamsher Lal, the Programme Officer of the NSS unit ‘Prabha’ of the College, the NSS Committee members, Physical Training Instructor, other staff members and the NSS volunteers participated in the Rally that was carried out in the College’s adopted village ‘Kalah’. The participants carried posters and chanted slogans in support of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’.
The residents of the College’s adopted village ‘Kalah’ applauded the College administration for these initiatives.
