GDC Ramgarh organises Symposium to mark International Mother Language Day
SAMBA, February 21: Government Degree College Ramgarh commemorated International Mother Language Day on this year’s theme ‘Multilingual Education- A necessity to transform education’ by organising a Symposium under the able guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Satinder Kaur, Principal of the College.
A large number of students participated in the event with great zeal & enthusiasm.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Satinder Kaur said that Languages are essential tools to communicate and share knowledge, memory and history.
“International Mother Language Day recognizes that languages and multilingualism can advance inclusion and the sustainable Development Goals with a focus of leaving no one behind” she added. Multilingual education is a type of education that begins in the language that the learner masters most and then gradually introduces other languages, she said.
Later, the Participants put forward their thoughts in their mother tongue on the theme ‘Multilingual Education- A necessity to transform education.’ Emphasis was also placed on Indigenous people’s education and languages. Further the students explained that the Multilingual & Multicultural societies exist through their languages which transmit and preserve traditional knowledge & cultures in a sustainable way.
Prof. Risha Kumari, Dr. Ekta Rani & Dr. Shamsher Lal organized the whole event. Technical assistance was provided by Dr. Sandeep Kumar. Other Faculty members present were Dr. Aditi Khajuria, Prof. Seema Sharma, Dr. Varinder Kour, Dr. Rahul Kundal and Dr. Anjali Bala.
