GDC Vijaypur hosts students’ visit to Water Body
SAMBA, DECEMBER 28: Department of Environmental Sciences of Government Degree College Vijaypur, under the flagship banner of ‘Viksit Bharat@2047’, organized students’ visit to a nearby pond (Rahya Suchani) with special focus on cleaning and rejuvenating water bodies with involvement Eco-Club volunteers.
The visit was undertaken as a part of one of the practical of Educational visits of Environmental Sciences students of semester-I.
The students, along with faculty members Prof. Poonam Kundan (HOD Environmental Sciences, Dr. Manoj Heer (HOD Dogri) and Dr. Naseem Chowdhary (HOD English) visited the pond and carried out a cleanliness drive along with the practical. Students of semester – I of Environmental Sciences attended the visit and studied various physico-chemical and biological characteristics of the pond. At the outset, Prof. Poonam Kundan briefed about the main objective of the visit to safeguard the environment like rainwater harvesting structures, working on restoration of ponds and recycling of PET bottles. Eco Club volunteers of the college raised public awareness about water conservation as it is the need of the hour to increase peoples’ knowledge of water resources, water use, and the need to conserve water.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal of the College, Prof. (Dr.) Vandana Gupta congratulated the Environmental Sciences department for such initiatives. She further added that it provides the students an opportunity to learn practically through visiting the water body. The one day tour was coordinated by Prof. Poonam Kundan (HOD Environmental Sciences) and co-coordinated by Dr. Manoj Heer (HOD Dogri) and Dr. Naseem Chowdhary (HOD English). Refreshments were also distributed during the visit.
