GDC Vijaypur organises Walkathon to spread awareness about Voting Rights
SAMBA, March 05: NSS Unit (KHIDMAT) of Government Degree College Vijaypur, under the banner of Mera Pehla Vote Desh Ke Liye and guided by Principal of the College Dr. (Prof.) Vandana Gupta organised a walkathon on the theme ‘Know Your Voting Rights’ to create awareness among the young college students/citizens about the importance of their participation in the elections.
The walkathon was also aimed at imparting information about the awareness of voting and its rights.
Principal, while addressing the students provided knowledge regarding voting rights and its importance for electing healthy and competent government. Further, she also elaborated upon the initiatives of the government like launching of a new portal for registration of citizens so that they can prepare their voter cards online and also briefed them regarding the process of voting, electoral process, including the role of the Election Commission of India, the process of voter registration, the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), and the importance of ethical voting. The walkathon was joined by a number college students including NSS volunteers.
The walkathon was organized with the full support and coordination of the senior faculty member of the college Prof. Mamta Gupta (HOD Commerce) and Dr. Anoop Bhagat (HOD Sociology). The event was coordinated by Prof. Poonam Kundan (HOD Environmental Sciences) and Dr. Naseem Chowdhary (NSS PO) and co-coordinated by Prof. Renuka Kundal, Dr. Radhika Rasyal, Dr. Gunjeet Mahiwal, Prof. Sonia Devi, Dr. Neelam Kumari and Dr. Pooja Gupta.
