North Goa (Goa) [India], October 3 (ANI): The Anti-Narcotic Cell (ANC) of Goa Police conducted a narcotics raid in Siolim, North Goa, in the early hours of Wednesday and arrested a Nigerian national in possession of drugs worth Rs 4.6 lakh.
The Nigerian, identified as 23-year-old Innocent Nzedigwe, had been under police surveillance for several days.
The ANC received information that a Nigerian national would be near Siolim Bridge to deliver contraband. Using a combination of human intelligence and technical surveillance, the ANC laid a trap and arrested the accused, officials said.
The narcotics team seized 40 grammes of cocaine and 6 grammes of ecstasy powder.
Initial interrogation revealed that the accused had arrived in India a year ago as a student and had enrolled in a BBA programme at a university in Ajmer, Rajasthan.
Further investigation showed that the Nigerian held a valid passport and visa, and his stay documentation, including police verification and C-Form, was found to be in order.
So far this year, the ANC has seized narcotics worth over Rs 5.30 crore and is intensifying its efforts against drug offenders, especially in the run-up to the tourist season.
