Review- 4 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐

‘Thalapathy is the GOAT’ and the movie proves exactly why! Originally made in Tamil language with the title ‘The Greatest of All Time’ or  ‘The GOAT’, this action thriller features Vijay Thalapathy in the lead role. There is a reason masses connect with Thalapathy Vijay and his films mostly prove to be box-office successes. With the gripping storyline, some outstanding and raw action scenes, the film is a bag of emotions which makes it a treat to watch in theaters. Director Venkat Prabhu sets the tone of the movie from the first scene itself and maintains it till the end. While there are some scenes where you will try hard to find sense but a thorough entertainment is guaranteed in the movie. In the end of the movie, the makers have also hinted towards the sequel of GOAT.

Story

‘Thalapathy is the GOAT’ is the story of a Gandhi (Vijay) and his special Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) consisting of Sunil (Prashanth), Ajay (Ajmal), Kalyan (Prabhu Deva), and their chief Nazeer (Jayaram) who are also good friends. The good part is how Venkat Prabhu has intertwined the professional troubles, and personal life and emotions of the characters so beautifully.

Performances

One of the best aspects of GOAT is its cast. Vijay Thalapathy plays the double role of Gandhi and Jeevan (father and son) and the actor has essayed both the roles to perfection. With Prashanth, Prabhudeva, Mohan, Jayaram, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Sneha, Laila, Ajmal Amir, Vaibhav, Parvati Nair, Yogi Babu, Yugendran Vasudevan Premgi Amaren, and Akilan playing important parts, all the actors have done complete justice to their characters. It’s a treat to watch Prabhudeva playing the negative part.

Direction & Screenplay

The screenplay by K.Chandru & Ezhilarasu Gunasekaran seemed a bit stretched, especially in the second half of the movie. However the dialogues by Riya Mukherjee, Viji & Venkat Prabhu are everything ‘Masala’ and compensate for the length of the movie.

Music

While the dance numbers will surely make you want to dance your heart out, some songs seemed forcefully fitted  which come out of the blue in the narrative. However, kudos to the music composer Yuvan Shankar Raja and choreographers Raju Sundaram, Sekhar VJ, Sathish for creating masala dance numbers.

Overall

Take One Filmy recommends you to WATCH ‘Thalapathy is the GOAT’ (Hindi) or ‘The Greatest of All Time’ (Tamil) in theaters as it is a sheer cinematic experience for you to have and is definitely a big screen movie. You will laugh, sob, and be on the edge of your seats throughout the film, especially in the second half of the movie.
