Good Governance Week: SHD Bandipora organises Awareness Camp at Sumlar, Barnai
BANDIPORA, December 23: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Dr. Owais Ahmed and as part of ongoing Information, Awareness and Dissemination campaign being held under Good Governance week, the Sheep Husbandry Department (SHD) Bandipora today organised an awareness camp for sheep farmers at Sumlar, Bandipora and Barnai, Gurez.
The events witnessed participation of small, marginal sheep farmers, aspiring entrepreneurs and local PRI representatives.
At Sumlar, the experts threw light on various activities of the Department, especially employment generation schemes aimed for providing gainful self-employment and sustainable livelihoods for rural youth.
Dr Suhail Magrey Veterinary Assistant Surgeon (VAS), Kunan impressed upon the farmers to come forward and avail the benefit under various schemes of the Department. Dr Parwaiz Ahmad, VAS Gamroo delivered a detailed lecture on breed improvement programme, INAPH tagging and livestock insurance under NLM.
Dr Umer Yousuf VAS GF, Kunan highlighted the new initiatives taken by the Department for the benefit of the farming community including artificial insemination and use of ultrasonography for gestational management of animals.
The grievances/ demands put forth by the participating farmers were also redressed on spot. The event concluded with the distribution of seed kits of perennial fodder rye grass among the participants by Block Development Council member, Arin.
At Barnai Gurez, speakers deliberated upon employment generation schemes including Integrated Sheep Development, Tribal sub plan, Seema Samriddhi Yojna and Aspirational Block Development Plan aimed for providing gainful self-employment and livestock based livelihood for remote tribal areas.
Dr Hilal Ramzan VAS, Badugam deliberated in detail on livestock insurance and registration on INAPH Portal.
