Government   fails  to meet power crisis during peak hot  –  Congress

Jammu, June 24- Congress has strongly criticized  the UT administration and centre government for the failure to regular power supply during the peak hot period of summer season, as a result people suffer a lot especially the common man, the ailing, aged and children.

In a statement  Mr. Narinder Gupta PCC, General Secretary (Org) has expressed serious concern over the long scheduled and unscheduled  power cuts in the electric power supply and scarcity of drinking water in both urban and rural areas of Jammu District.   He said that UT administration and centre government have failed to meet the requirement of power forcing poor people to cry in the scorching heat. A vast majority of people can’t afford invertors and as the power goes off, the aged, ailing and children are worst hit in the situation.

The water supply is directly related to the supply of power, when there is shortage of power, the water supply automatically affected.  The people of Jammu District, especially in urban areas there is acute shortage of drinking water.  Despite  paying  of  Rs. 3000/-  water rent annually,  the Poor people have been compelled to purchase  water from the  private water tankers.

PCC General Secretary  said that at the time of installing smart meters, the PDD department assured the general public that after installation of smart meters, there will be no power cuts but it is very un fortunate  that consumers  are paying  heavy electricity bills  for the facility,  they are not availing.

Mr. Gupta strongly demanded the Govt. to take immediate steps to improve the power supply in Jammu District. The water supply should also be improved ,  in view of the scorching heat of this summer.

Congress leader further said that the people of Jammu displayed faith in BJP while giving them huge mandate from Jammu region with the hope that their grievances will be taken note of and discrimination with Jammu will end. However, BJP sidelined issues related to Jammu, the people want development, employment opportunities, better infrastructure and other basic requirements like adequate water and power supply. Gupta alleged that the BJP is befooling the people on the name of Smart City, where the people are facing  problems for the basic needs of life.
