Hari Singh felicitates winners of two-day 3rd District Silambam Championship
Urges Govt to raise sports infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir
JAMMU, Sep 23: Hari Singh Chib, President District Congress Committee, Jammu Rural urged the Jammu and Kashmir government to take adequate measures in raising sports infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir.
The senior Congress leader was speaking after felicitating the winners of two days 3rd District Silambam Championship, Jammu, in Mini Sub Junior, Sub Junior, Junior and Senior Categories which was concluded here successfully at Jammu North Assembly segment.
The championship was organised by the Silambam Association of Jammu which is affiliated to the All India Silambam Federation. More than 300 students participants from different schools were participated.
On the occasion, Hari Singh Chib was the Chief Guest and Somnath Sharma was the Guest of Honor of the closing ceremony. Birinder Singh, President of Silambam Association of J&K, Kaka Ram General Secretary of SAJK, Jai Gupta, Ankush Sharma, Nehal Laletra, Tashvi Hans, Naresh Kumar, Naman Thakur, Rajneesh Gupta, Pooja, Laxmi and Rashmi Gupta were the officials of the tournament.
The Winner Trophy was bagged by S.D. Memorial School while Ist Runner Up was secured by BHMP School, and 3rd Runner Up trophy by Shangrilla Public School and the Discipline Trophy was bagged by Trikula Public School.
Hari Singh Chib, in his address, said that a lot of enthusiasm was witnessed among the children belonging to different schools who have come to participate in the two-day championship. He said that there is dire need to promote sports activities not only for a healthy citizenry but more than that to divert the youth from the path of indulging in drug related activities.
Hair Singh said adequate sports infrastructure needs to be made available across the length and breadth of the Jammu and Kashmir by the administration in order to ensure that youth overwhelmingly participate in sports activities thus leaving less scope for their indulgence in drug abuse that has become a big menace for the society as of today.
He said that today youth excelling in the field of sports can also adopt Silambam as a lucrative career. He said that there is dire need to divert the attention of youth towards the sports. He said presently there are several youth who brought laurels to Jammu and Kashmir by bringing medal from outside states in the discipline of Silambam.
Hari Singh Chib appealed to the youth as well as their parents to come forward to join Silambam as a sports career. There is a bright future in sports in the near future.
Others who were present include Som Nath Sharma, Jung Bahadur Singh, Tarun Vaid, Virender Mehta and Bittu Chib.
