Health department Doda releases Gambusia fishes for prevention of Dengue/Malaria

DODA, AUGUST 05: In an effort to tackle vector borne diseases during the monsoon and to prevent its spread in the district, the health department Doda kick-started the district wide awareness campaign and released 243 Gambusia Fishes in a fountain/pond at Old Bus Stand Doda.

The gambusia fishes were released by Chief Medical Officer Doda, Dr. Ab Hamid Zargar in presence of Executive Officer Municipal Committee Doda Sh Yousuf ul Umar and concerned staff of the department.

CMO said that gambusia fish which is also called as Mosquito Fish eats the mosquito larvae and helps in controlling the spread of various diseases like Dengue & Malaria.

He said that dumping of gambusia fish in water bodies is an eco-friendly process of mosquito control and is more effective than the indoor process of fogging and spraying.

The CMO also added that gambusia fish will be released in other water bodies in the district very soon.

Pertinent to mention here that the health department has been organizing awareness programmes in the community since the last two months as a part of Anti Dengue Month to inform the general public about the prevention and control of various vector borne diseases.

Among others who were present on the occasion included Rishi Kumar Pandita (Head Phst), Mohd Shafi Attu (HE), Basharat Ali Mir (Malaria Inspector), Farooq Ahmed (JHI), Liaqat Ali Zargar (BHW), Shamas ud Din (BHW) besides staff of Municipal Committee Doda.
