Health Department’s dedicated teams provide vital assistance to Amarnathji Yatra pilgrims battling High Altitude Sickness

The annual Amarnathji Yatra has commenced, drawing thousands of devotees from far and wide to embark on this sacred pilgrimage.

However, the challenging geo-climatic conditions, particularly the high altitudes, present a unique set of difficulties for the pilgrims.

As the yatris reach the high altitude points along the track, many experience the effects of High Altitude Sickness due to the reduced oxygen supply.

To ensure the well-being of the pilgrims, teams from the Health Department have been deployed at various locations, providing essential aid and support to those facing difficulty at such elevations.

High Altitude Sickness, also known as Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS), can manifest in the form of headaches, nausea, dizziness, and shortness of breath, among other symptoms. As pilgrims trek to elevations above 10,000 feet, the risk of AMS increases due to the lower levels of oxygen in the air.

As the Amarnathji Yatra progresses, the Health Department’s teams continue to play a vital role in safeguarding the pilgrims’ health and providing necessary assistance at high altitudes.
