Health Minister addresses annual day celebration at IGGDC; inaugurates CBCT at hospital
Says Govt working on a structured policy to address employment concerns of dentists
JAMMU, FEBRUARY 12: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, today remarked that the Omar Abdullah led government is actively working on a structured policy to address employment concerns of dentists and expand job prospects for them in government and allied sectors.

The Minister made these remarks while addressing the Annual Day celebrations at Indira Gandhi Government Dental College (IGGDC), Jammu.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister emphasised on the critical significance of medical education on society and role of dental professionals in strengthening public health services. “Medical is a very noble profession as it directly impacts the public welfare”, she stated. She added that the medical professionals have a very active role in shaping the well being of the society.
The Minister further said that new technologies are coming every other day in medical field and medical professionals need to upgrade themselves as per these evolving technologies. “Medical and dental field is an ever evolving field requiring introduction of newer advancements to promote patient care”, She maintained.
The Minister emphasized on the critical role of dentists in public health saying that the government is actively working on a structured policy to address employment concerns and create new job opportunities for dentists.
Commending the academic and clinical excellence of IGGDC, she encouraged the students to pursue knowledge with dedication and serve society with compassion. She also applauded the institution’s role in fostering research and innovation in dentistry.
In her welcome address, Principal and Dean, IGGDC, Dr. Parveen Akhter Lone, presented a comprehensive report through PowerPoint Presentation, detailing the departmental overview and achievements of the college throughout the academic year, including major milestones and varied academic programs that have fostered academic and extracurricular development among the students. She sought Minister’s intervention in introduction of postgraduate course in the college. She also applauded the help of government in introducing written test for registrars to facilitate a fair process of faculty selection.
On the occasion, the Minister felicitated the Alumni of college who are serving the society under various capacities in different government departments. The Minister also felicitated the meritorious students of various batches.
Notably, the Minister also released the first edition of college magazine ‘UMEED’ which serves as a platform for students to express their ideas.
Earlier, the Minister inaugurated Dental Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) at the hospital.
Later, she conducted a detailed tour of the hospital to assess the functioning of the dental services being provided to the patients. She also interacted with the patients and had feedback about the services being provided at the facility.
