Home Voting begins for Elderly, PwDs in Doda

DODA, SEPTEMBER 12: The home voting for the General Assembly Elections 2024 commenced across the district in three constituencies—AC 51 Bhaderwah, AC 52 Doda, and AC 53 Doda West. The home voting facility will be available for two days.

This initiative, introduced by the Election Commission of India (ECI), allowed elderly citizens and Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) to cast their votes from home, ensuring their active participation in the democratic process.

The polling teams were dispatched early in the morning to certified areas, covering all identified locations where elderly and disabled voters reside. The response was overwhelming, with a large turnout of voters above the age of 85 and those with benchmark disabilities, reflecting their eagerness to strengthen democracy.

District Election Officer Harvinder Singh said that adequate arrangements were made for the smooth conduct of home voting. “The initiative is a significant step towards inclusivity, as it provides an optional home voting facility to voters over 85 years and PwDs, further enhancing the reach and accessibility of the electoral process,” he said.
