Horticulture Department organizes Workshop on ‘Production of Designer Plants & Clean Plant production’

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 06: In order to acquaint officers and nursery growers with scientific and technological knowhow, the Horticulture Department Kashmir today organized a day-long workshop on the theme ‘Production of Designer Plants and Clean Plant Production’ at Conference Hall Lalmandi Srinagar.


The programme was organized under the chairmanship of Director Horticulture Kashmir, Zahoor Ahmad Bhat.


Director Horticulture Kashmir in his keynote address said that High Density farming is a game changer and it will uplift the socio-economic status of the farming community in terms of better returns. Besides, it will upgrade the quantity manifold with quality production.


He said, in view of growing demand of establishing High Density orchards the department has to cater to the demand by providing quality high density fruit plant material.


Earlier, during the inaugural session, Nursery Registration Officer Kashmir, M Y Malik elaborated the theme of the workshop, its importance and requirement to navigate the Horticulture sector towards progress and prosperity.


After introducing High Density farming in the Horticulture sector, it has become imperative to propagate true to type quality fruit plant material at par with the imported fruit plant material locally. In this direction it is of profound and preliminary importance that we must possess dedication and commitment along with scientific and technological know-how to deal with the challenge, he said.


Scientists from SKAUST-K and Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture Srinagar Kashmir (CITH) gave power point presentations to deliberate on the theme and to make understand different pros and cons of nursery growing on scientific lines to propagate fruit plant material at par with the imported plant material.


In an interactive session, the nursery growers shared their point of view, experience and the obstacles they are facing in propagation of fruit plant material.


Director emphasized upon the officers and field functionaries to put every effort to make the departmental nurseries vibrant centers of propagation of quality fruit plant material. He also distributed certificates of appreciation among the officers/officials who have performed well in maintaining the departmental nurseries.


Workshop was attended by Chief Horticulture Officer, Srinagar, District Horticulture Officers, Horticulture Development Officers, field functionaries and various Nursery Growers of Kashmir Division.
