India’s smallest Union Territory, Lakshadweep, is an enchanting archipelago comprised of 36 islands, covering a total area of 32 square kilometers. The images shared by PM Modi not only showcase the breathtaking beauty of Lakshadweep but also contribute to its increased visibility, stirring curiosity and interest among netizens. If you are also planning a trip to the island, here is a guide for you to reach there.
Lakshadweep Islands are accessible by both ships and flights operating from Kochi, establishing Kochi as the gateway to this stunning archipelago. For tourists, Kochi serves as the primary entry point to Lakshadweep. Specifically, Agatti and Bangaram islands are reachable by flights from Kochi, operated by Indian Airlines. These flights connect Kochi to various airports in India and abroad, with an approximate duration of one hour and thirty minutes for the journey from Cochin to Agatti.
Agatti, equipped with an airstrip, facilitates boat transfers to Kavaratti and Kadmat during the fair season from October to May. Helicopter transfers from Agatti to Kavaratti are also available during the monsoon season, subject to helicopter availability.
For maritime travel, seven passenger ships—MV Kavaratti, MV Arabian Sea, MV Lakshadweep Sea, MV Lagoon, MV Corals, MV Amindivi, and MV Minicoy—operate between Cochin and Lakshadweep, with the journey lasting 14 to 18 hours depending on the chosen island. These ships offer various accommodation options, including A/C First Class, A/C Second Class, and push back/Bunk Class, with MV Amindivi and MV Minicoy also providing comfortable A/C seating for night journeys.
Additionally, during the fair season, high-speed vessels operate between the islands, enhancing connectivity. Boats are available from Agatti to Kavaratti and Kadmat during the fair season (October to May), and helicopter transfers are facilitated from Agatti to Kavaratti during the monsoon season, subject to helicopter availability.
