ICSSR sponsored National Conference commences at School of Business Studies, CUJ
Jammu, 11 September 2024 : Central University of Jammu organized a National Conference on the topic Gender Inclusion, Empowerment and Dignity for Sustainable Development under the mentorship of Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu sponsored by ICSSR, New Delhi. The event marked the gracious presence of distinguished guests, keynote speakers, researchers and resource persons from corporate and academia. The programme was formally inaugurated by Prof. Yashwant Singh, Registrar, Central University of Jammu in presence of Ms. Sukhleen Kour, Director Planning, HED, JK, Sh Sashi Krishnan, Director, NISM, Prof. Manoj Kumar Agarwal, Dean Deptt of Economics, University of Lucknow and Ms. Ruchika Gupta, Chairman, FICCI-FLO-JKL.
Prof. Jaya Bhasin, Dean School of Business Studies and Convener of National Conference in her opening address appreciated the efforts of faculty members from School of Business Studies, Central University of Jammu under the visionary leadership of Prof. Sanjeev Jain in carrying out academic and research activities in the University. Speaking on the occasion Prof. Bhasin impressed upon the participants that India has witnessed a tough time for inclusion of all genders. Despite significant progress in recent decades in India, gender-based discrimination and inequality persist in various forms in India. Addressing these issues requires a multifaceted approach that acknowledges the intersectionality of gender with other social identities such as race, ethnicity, sexuality, disability, and socioeconomic status.
Prof Yashwant Singh, Registrar, CUJ presented a brief overview of administrative functioning of the University and deliberated on gender issues and sustainable development goals by discussing areas like gender inclusion, gender biases and dignity for sustainable development.
Speaking on the occasion Ms. Sukhleen Kour, Director, Planning, Higher Education, UT of J&K spoke about various initiatives of the Govt. for women empowerment. She also highlighted one such successful initiative undertaken in District Samba under “Beti Bachao Beti Padaho”.
Prof. Manoj Kumar Agarwal, University of Lucknow delivered the keynote address on the theme of the conference. He presented statistical information related to gender empowerment achieved in the last ten years which is the outcome strategies adopted by the Government for addressing the overarching principles of sustainable growth and community development vis a Vis the vision of Modi ji of Viksit Bharat @2047.
Addressing the gathering Guest of Honour Sh Sashi Krishnan, Director, NISM talked about fiscal feminism and he informed that less than 10% females are leading the multinational companies across the globe and financial participation is key for achieving the desired outcome.
Ms. Ruchika Gupta, Chairman, FICCI-FLO-JKL suggested that gender-inclusive policies shall contribute to sustainable development by unlocking the full potential of all individuals, including those who have historically been marginalized or excluded. She also pointed out that United Nation Sustainable Development Goals has identified gender inclusion, empowerment and dignity as fundamental pillars of a just and equitable society. During the inaugural session MoU was exchanged between National Institute of Securities Markets and Central University of Jammu for Capacity Building in the Securities Markets. The signing of MoU was coordinated by Dr. Shahid Mushtaq and Dr Jaya Bhasin.
Two technical sessions were conducted and 28 research papers were presented in these sessions coordinated by Dr. Jaya Bhasin, Dean, SBS, Dr. Susmita Ekka, Assistant Professor, School of Business Studies, Dr. G V Snigdha Raj, Assistant Professor, CCRC, Mr. Biswa bhusan Pradhan, Assistant Professor, School of Business Studies, Dr. Shahid Mushtaq, Assistant Professor and Dr. Asif Ali, Assistant Professor, School of Business Studies. The organising team included Dr. Jaya Bhasin, Dr Shahid Mushtaq, & Dr. Asif Ali. Ms. Diya Raina and Ms. Rajlakshmi conducted the proceedings of the Programme and Dr. Asif Ali proposed a formal vote of thanks.
