IMD predicts light to moderate rainfall likely to continue in Himachal Pradesh
Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], August 7 (ANI): Amid the orange alert in Himachal Pradesh, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday predicted that light to moderate rainfall is likely to continue in the state.
“Light to moderate rainfall is very likely to continue at many places in the Districts of Kangra, Sirmaur, Shimla, Solan, and Mandi at many places, at few places in the Districts of Bilaspur, Una, Hamirpur, Kullu, and Chamba with isolated spells of intense rainfall during next 2 to 3 hours,” IMD Himachal Pradesh stated.
The hill resort Shimla, is currently experiencing heavy rainfall, amid an orange rain warning from the Indian Meteorological Department for the next two days.
The incessant downpour has affected daily life, making it challenging for the residents and visitors alike. The cloud burst and flash floods that occurred on August 1 have affected the districts of Kullu, Mandi and Shimla.
According to the data from the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), 85 roads, including two National Highways (NH), have been closed in the state due to landslides and excessive rain.
A total of 116 electricity supply schemes and 65 water supply schemes have also been disrupted in the state.
An incident of a catastrophic cloudburst occurred in the Lahaul and Spiti districts on August 1.
As the rain continues to lash Shimla and other parts of Himachal Pradesh, the authorities have urged residents and tourists to take necessary precautions and stay updated on weather advisories.
