Implement Women Reservation Bill henceforth : Bhanu Mahajan
Mahila Congress to protest at Jantar Mantar, district headquarters on July 29
JAMMU: Bhanu Mahajan, Senior Vice President J&K Pradesh Mahila Congress on Saturday demanded immediate implementation of Women Reservation Bill guaranteeing 33 per cent reservation to womenfolk in the country.
Addressing a press conference along with her team comprising office bearers of Mahila Congress here at party headquarters, she criticized the central government for shelving the aforesaid bill after passing the same in the parliament. She said that there is no fun in passing a bill and not implementing the same. She said that the decision to linger on the implementation of this bill has exposed the ruling party as this is nothing but sheer deception and cruel injustice with the women of the country. Citing the statements made by Rahul Gandhi, leader of Opposition in the Parliament, and Sonia Gandhi, senior Congress leader, she said that the higher command of the party has also sought the immediate implementation of the aforesaid bill as merely passing the bill in parliament and not implementing the same is nothing but denial of democratic rights to the concerned lot.
She also raised the issue of skyrocketing inflation which has disturbed the budget of women house makers thus giving them a tough time. She said that the government has utterly failed to set things right as price rise is becoming out of control with each passing day and those running the government are totally indifferent. She asked the government to come up with a scheme like the one proposed by the Congress party viz. Mahalakshmi by depositing Rs one lakh in the accounts of financially weaker families to help them survive and live a dignified life. She also demanded reservation for SC, ST and OBC women under women reservation bill to deliver justice to these entities belonging to deprived sections of the society. She announced that Mahila Congress shall be holding protest demonstrations at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi under the leadership of Alka Lamba, All India Mahila Congress President, and at all districts across the nation besides Gherao of Parliament on July 29.
