Implementation of RPWD Act, 2016 reviewed at Kupwara
KUPWARA, SEPTEMBER 16: Under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan, Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Iqbal Lone today took a review for implementation of Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act (RPWD) 2016, in an officers meeting, here.
The meeting held a threadbare discussion on various issues pertaining to the persons with disabilities which include their accessibility in all existing public buildings, awareness and capacity building programmes and other issues.
On the occasion, the DC impressed upon all the officers to work with added dedication and coordination to ensure better amenities for the persons with disabilities in the district.
On seeking details from DSWO about resolving the pension issues of disabled persons, the DC was informed that Special Camps are being conducted by the Social Welfare department in collaboration with Common Service Centres for rectifying the bank account details and Aadhaar details of the beneficiaries, especially disabled persons for timely payment of the pension.
The Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities gave a detailed PowerPoint Presentation regarding various provisions and measures for upliftment and welfare of disabled persons with respect to RPWD Act 2016. He also highlighted different initiatives unveiled by the J&K Government for empowerment of persons with disabilities.
Earlier, Chief Medical Officer Kupwara, Chief Education Officer and District Social Welfare Officer briefed the chair about measures put in place to facilitate the Persons with Disability viz Healthcare, Education, Welfare schemes in the district.
It was given out in the meeting that one Disable Friendly School and one Police Station shall be designated in the district with proper facilities for disabled persons. These will serve as models for replicating the facilities in other institutions as well.
The meeting was attended by ADDC Kupwara, CMO, CEO, DSWO, besides NGOs and concerned officers.
