Indian Citizens also need permit to visit Lakshadweep; Here’s why & how to get it

Lakshadweep, encompassing 36 coral islands, stands as a tropical haven celebrated for its stunning beaches and vibrant marine ecosystem, creating an ideal vacation spot. However, a lesser-known fact is that even Indian citizens require entry permits for Lakshadweep. Notably, the Laccadive, Minicoy, and Amindivi Islands (Restriction on Entry and Residence) Rules, 1967, stipulate that everyone, except natives and government officials or armed forces members and their families, must obtain the required permit.
How to Apply :
To secure your entry permit, the Lakshadweep Tourism website outlines a straightforward process. Applicants can visit the ePermit portal, create an account, and submit the necessary details. The online application typically takes 15 days for processing.
For those opting for the offline route, the application form can be downloaded from the Lakshadweep Administration website or obtained from the District Collector’s office in Kavaratti. This method may take a bit longer.
Required Documents:
Required documents include a passport-sized photograph, a photocopy of a valid ID proof (Aadhaar card, voter ID, driver’s license, etc.), proof of travel (flight tickets or boat reservation details), and a booking confirmation from the chosen accommodation.
Fee details:
Applicants need to pay an application fee of Rs 50 per person, with a heritage fee of Rs 100 for children aged 12 to 18 and Rs 200 for individuals above 18.
For Non- Indians:
Foreign tourists must ensure compliance with the entry requirements for India, which includes holding a valid passport and obtaining an Indian visa, to access destinations such as Lakshadweep.
