Industry-Academia Linkage Lecture Series Starts at Dept. of Commerce, University of Jammu, Jammu

Jammu, August 11: P.G. Department of Commerce, University of Jammu commenced its maiden lectureunder Industry Academia Linkage Lecture Series,onthe theme “Industrialization in UT of J&K”on 11th August 2023 for the students of M.Com. The lecture series aims at  fostering a deeper understanding of the potential for economic growth and development in J&K region. The series commenced with formal welcome address by Dr. Sumeet Kour, the Coordinator of the event, where she welcomed the worthy Guest Speaker, Mr. Arshad Noomani, Functional Manager, Directorate of Industry and Commerce Department, Jammu. Dr. Jeevan Jyoti, HoD, Commerce presented a planter as token of respect to the invited guest.

Mr. Noomani, shared his insights and perspectives on various aspects of industrialization during the informative event. The discussion highlighted strategies to leverage the unique resources and capabilities of J&K to promote sustainable industrial growth, create employment opportunities and enhance the overall socio-economic landscape. He also familiarized the students with the provisional and permanent registration process for starting up their own venture. Shedding light on the land allotment rules in J&K, he discussed various concessional rates at which government provide land to entrepreneurs. Further, he introduced the students with the New Central Sector scheme for industrial development of J&K like Capital Investment incentive scheme, and encouraged the students to start their own venture by taking benefits of these schemes. Later, formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Jeevan Jyoti, HoD along with a token of appreciation. Among those present during the event were Dr. Tarsem Lal, Associate Professor, Dr. Harleen Kaur, Assistant Professor and Dr. Deepti Abrol, Lecturer.

Faculty interaction was done with Mr. Noomani to explore opportunities for collaboration with DIC and industries for the placement and internship of the students. It was also deliberated and stressed that industrial visits of students would also be organized to apprise students about the practical environment.
