Information Sharing Session on ITEP aligned with NEP-2020 Organised at CUJ

Jammu, October 27: One-day ‘Information Sharing Session for sensitization on ITEP aligned with NEP-2020’ was organised by Department of Educational Studies, Central University of Jammu in collaboration with National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), New Delhi, on 27th October, 2023 at Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium, CUJ.

Prof. Ritu Bakshi, Convenor of the event, welcomed the Chief Guest and explained the significance of the event to be organised in Jammu region. The stakeholders of the program were Principals of Government colleges, members of SCERT, Teacher Educators and Research Scholars. The whole event was organized under two sessions. The experts of the program delivered the talk in various aspects of ITEP and its implementation under session-I. In the II- session the experts had interacted with the delegates by addressing their queries.

Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor CUJ has inaugurated the event in presence of Mrs. Kesang Y Sherpa, Member Secretary, NCTE, Prof. H.C.S. Rathore,  former Vice-Chancellor of Central University, South Bihar, Prof. P.C. Agarwal, Member, ITEP Curriculum Framework Committee, Sh. Ravinder Singh, Under-secretary, NCTE, Prof. J. N. Baliya, Member, NRC, NCTE, Abhimanyu Yadav, co- convenor,  ITEP, B. K. Chaturvedi, Nodal Officer NCTE & Faculty members from allied higher educational institutions of Jammu region.

Earlier the event was inaugurated with the lighting of lamp. Prof. Sanjeev Jain appreciated the NCTE efforts for organising this event at CUJ. He expressed that all the teacher educators and institutions have to come forward to implement ITEP in a constructive way. Prof. Jain, during his address highlighted the vision of NEP-2020 for transforming teacher education through ITEP and reiterated the need for effective implementation of ITEP so as to fulfil the transformative vision of NEP 2020.

Prof. J N Baliya, member NCTE briefed for implementing ITEP in a successful way. He said that it is pride to say that CUJ has taken initiative to conduct this event which helps the whole Jammu region. He further said that ITEP is the flagship program of the central government for which CUJ is always supporting and completing the tasks assigned. He also emphasised that the success of the ITEP will depend on the coordination and sharing of the resources among the educational institutions and universities.

Mrs. Kesang Y Sherpa, Member Secretary, NCTE made a detailed presentation on the implementation of the ITEP as a flagship programme of the Government of India aligned with NEP-2020 on pilot mode for the first phase for which 42 institutions were selected. She talked about the need for an updated Teacher Education system so as to produce empowered, well trained, passionate and motivated teachers in order to make India ‘Vishwaguru’ in the field of education. She also talked about National Professional Standards for Teacher Education, Art and Sports Integrated Education. She concluded her talk that quality teachers can be developed with the help of ITEP who will serve in schools by 2030.

The event was also addressed by Prof. H C S Rathore, Chairman, ITEP Curriculum Framework. He emphasised that teachers should be prepared on the basis of their choice therefore their aptitude and dedication assist to excel in nation building. He further said that the job of the teacher is to uncover the content and purpose of the syllabus. While talking about the ITEP the institutions need to be shifted to ITEP by 2026. He further urged that all the teacher education institutions have to comply with the norms of the NCTE for running teacher education programmes, mainly ITEP.

In his speech, Prof. P C Aggrawal, Member, Curriculum Framework Committee, emphasised that the teachers have to uncover the note to cover the content.  He ensured that the placement of the teachers is very high after pursuing the ITEP program. For preparing a quality teacher, he urged that the 21st century skills must be developed among students for which ITEP has concerned. He also delivered his talk on various curricular aspects of ITEP in the session.

At the end of the event, the open session for question-answers and observations was conducted. Many questions related to the issues, concerns and challenges in the implementation of ITEP were addressed by the expert members along with the Member Secretary, NCTE.

The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks given by Dr. Kiran. Faculty members of the Department Dr. Aman, Dr. Ravi Vanguri, Dr. Yadram, Dr. Mohan took an active role in organising the event to make it successful.
