Inter-Collegiate Chess (M&W) Championship 2023–24 organised by Jammu University commences

Jammu, October09: INTER-COLLEGIATE CHESS (M&W) CHAMPIONSHIP 2023–24 Today, the Inter-Collegiate Chess (M&W) Championship 2023–24, organised by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, Jammu, commenced at the University Gymnasium Hall in the presence of a large gathering of participants and guests.

 In the first match of the men’s section, the GDC Nowshera team beat GDC Akhnoor by 3-1 points. In this second match, GDC Bishnah beat GDC Marheen by 3-1 points. In the women’s section, GDC Kathua beat GCW Parade by 3-2 points. The match was decided through best versus best, as it remained a 2-2 draw in the main game. In the second match of the women’s section, GDC Bhagwati Nagar beat GDC Bishnah by 3-1. In the third match, GCW Kathua beat GDC Purmandal by 4-0. In the fourth match, GCW Udhampur beat GDC Billawar by 3-2 points through best-versus-best, as the match remained a 2-2 draw in the main game. Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, declared the tournament open by making the first move from while (e4) in the presence of the teacher in charge of physical education of the participating team. The matches were officiated by Sh. S. P. Sharma, Sh. Sushil Sawhney, S. Inderjeet Singh, and Padam Dev Singh.

Tomorrow, the next round of matches for the men section will be played at 10:00 a.m. and the women section at 1:00 p.m.
