International Day against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking observed in Rajouri

RAJOURI, JUNE 26: Amidst enthusiasm and fervor, the District Administration Rajouri observed the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking here today with the theme, ‘The evidence is clear: invest in prevention.’


During the event, a number of speakers shared their viewpoint on drug abuse and illicit trafficking. They highlighted the need for greater awareness and education, as well as the importance of taking concrete steps to prevent drug abuse and trafficking. The speakers also stressed the need for community engagement and support in fighting drug abuse and trafficking.


The Chief Guest of the event, Deputy Commissioner, Om Prakash Bhagat, emphasized the need for collective action to combat the menace of drug abuse and illicit trafficking. He highlighted the fact that drug addiction is a complex issue that affects not just the individual but also their families and communities.


The DC said that drug abuse is a serious public health problem that requires a comprehensive approach involving education, prevention, treatment and law enforcement. He spoke about the importance of awareness and education in preventing drug abuse and trafficking.


He stressed the need for all stakeholders to work together to provide young people with the knowledge and skills to make healthy choices and avoid the pitfalls of drug addiction. He also stated that the district administration is committed to providing educational and treatment resources to those affected by drug abuse and that it would continue to work towards a drug-free society.


Addressing the event, Additional District Development Commissioner, Dr. Raj Kumar Thapa stressed the importance of creating a safe and secure environment for all members of the community, especially the youth. He called on parents, teachers and community leaders to play an active role in preventing drug abuse and trafficking and urged them to educate young people about the dangers of drug abuse.


As part of the celebrations, a cricket match was organized at Sports Stadium Kheora by the Social Welfare Department in collaboration with the Youth Services and Sports Department and was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner. Among the others, DSWO, Abdul Raheem and DYSSO Rajouri were also present on the occasion.


The celebrations also included the launch of a signature campaign aimed at mobilizing public support for the cause. The campaign seeks to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and illicit trafficking and to encourage people to take a pledge to remain drug-free and support the fight against drug abuse and trafficking. A Nasha Mukt pledge was also taken by all the participants on this occasion. Moreover, a vehicle was flagged off to spread awareness about Nasha Mukt Abhiyan to educate people about the harmful effects of drug abuse.


The district administration Rajouri remains committed to working towards a drug-free society and will continue to organize similar events in the future to keep the momentum going and to create a safer and more prosperous community for all.
