International Museum Day AA&M Directorate organises special exhibition on Ancient Indian Texts School, College students turn up in large numbers
JAMMU, MAY 18: Directorate of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday celebrated International Museum Day 2024 by organising a special exhibition on Ancient Indian Texts here in the Dogra Art Museum, Mubarak Mandi.
The International Museum Day is observed across the world every year, celebrating the diversity of rich cultural heritage and the efforts being made for its preservation.
The theme for this year’s International Museum Day is “Museums for Education and Research”. The event/ special Exhibition was inaugurated by Raj Kumar Katoch, Director of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, J&K on “Ancient Indian Texts” by lighting the traditional lamp in presence of hundreds of students, visitors and the staff members.
The visiting school and college students were educated about the rich and diverse heritage housed in the Dogra Art Museum. The visitors showed keen interest in craft, objects and artifacts on display inside the Museum. A powerpoint presentation was also showcased for the visiting students.
While interacting with the visiting students, the Director reiterated the importance of heritage conservation and lauded the role of museums in heritage management and conservation. He further added that museums nowadays have emerged as centers for heritage awareness and informal tools of education and research. The department is duty bound to protect our heritage for the generations to come. He further added that the Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums, J&K is working on various patterns to popularize the museums among the general masses for disseminating the essence of our rich cultural heritage.
The event was coordinated by Mukul Magotra, Curator, Dogra Art Museums Jammu under the overall supervision of Dr. Sangeeta Sharma, Assistant Director.
