Int’l Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking observed at Udhampur
UDHAMPUR, June 26: Like other parts of the country, International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed with enthusiasm here at District Head Quarter Udhampur.
An impressive programme was organized by District Administration Udhampur in collaboration with Department of social welfare Udhampur here in Riwaayat Hall.
Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur Sachin Kumar Vaishya was the chief guest on the occasion.
The programme was attended by BDC, Chairman, Balwan Singh, DDC Councillor, Puran Chand; Additional Deputy Commissioner, Joginder Singh Jasrotia, Additional Sp, Anwar-ul-Haq, District Social Welfare Officer, Kanika Gupta DIO, Rajinder Digra and other officers besides students/staff members of different Colleges and educational institutions.
While addressing the gathering, the chief guest enumerated the harmful effects of Drugs and appreciated the role of the Social Welfare department for organizing such types of awareness programmes.The DC said that such programmes go a long way to create awareness among the public in general and the young generation in particular. He urged the participants to spread awareness about the drug abuse and illicit trafficking in their surroundings to make the society healthy. He appealed to the general public as well as participants to join hands in fighting the abuse of drugs and eliminate this social evil from society to make India a drug free nation.
DSWO, Udhampur Kanika Gupta also spoke on the occasion and educated the participants about reasons why youth fall prey to this grave problem, and the various remedies and treatments available to patients to re establish them as active members of society. In her message to the youth she added that youth are at a very important juncture in their lives, and it is important for them to invest their attention and energy in the right direction.
Besides, Vikas, a drug addict survivor delivered a motivational lecture regarding journey from a drug addict to a successful businessman. He motivated participants to stay away from drugs
During the programme, the Information Department Udhampur presented a theme based cultural programme which was appreciated by the audiences. Apart from this various theme based cultural performances and skits on drugs were presented by the students of different schools and colleges besides speakers also threw light on the hazardous effects of drugs.
