“Is this level playing field?” Supriya Shrinate after Congress accounts frozen
New Delhi [India], March 22 (ANI): Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party over the issue of electoral bonds and frozen bank accounts and said that BJP extorted money through electoral bonds and now giving us lessons.
The Congress leader Shrinate lashed out saying, “The reality what I have said multiple times and our leader has said it today is that you haven’t frozen our accounts (bank accounts) but the democracy of this country.”
Shrinate questioned whether this situation constitutes a fair and level playing field in the electoral process, asserting that “freezing the accounts of the opposition during an election amounts to freezing democracy itself”.
The Congress leader questioned saying, “Is this the level playing field?”
In response, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ravi Shankar Prasad vehemently criticized the Congress leadership’s allegations regarding the frozen accounts, suggesting that the party was seeking to create excuses for its anticipated defeat in the Lok Sabha polls. Prasad dismissed Congress’s claims of “no democracy” as ridiculous and accused Rahul Gandhi of bringing shame to Indian democracy with his remarks.
Ravi Shankar Prasad said “the party had sought to make an alibi at the highest level” for its “imminent defeat” in the Lok Sabha polls.
Talking to the media hours after Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge and party leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Ajay Maken held a joint press conference, BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said Congress making “no democracy” comments over Income Tax Department action concerning its accounts was ridiculous.
“In utter desperation of imminent defeat, the Congress party at the highest level sought to make an alibi today,” Prasad said.
He also targeted Rahul Gandhi over his remarks and said he had “shamed” Indian democracy.”
“If the bank account of the Congress Party was frozen, the account of the country was frozen. Rahul Gandhi, Don’t insult Indian democracy. If people of the country do not vote for you and are not going to vote for you, then what should we do…the more you allow Rahul Gandhi to speak, the more you are losing the ground in the country,” he said.
