Jack Quaid on being called ‘nepo baby’: I’m inclined to agree

Los Angeles, Jul 12 (PTI) “The Boys” star Jack Quaid, who is the son of actors Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan, says he does not mind being called a “nepo baby” and he considers himself an “immensely privileged” person.

Quaid made his acting debut with “Hunger Games” and has since starred in “Oppenheimer” and hit Prime Video show “The Boys”.

“No matter what I do, people are going to call attention to it. People have called me a ‘nepo baby.’ I’m inclined to agree,” Quaid told The Daily Beast’s “The Last Laugh” podcast.

“I am an immensely privileged person, was able to get representation pretty early on, and that’s more than half the battle,” the 32-year-old actor said.

Asked if he has consciously stayed away from romantic comedies, a genre that was ruled by his mother in the 90s with classics such as “When Harry Met Sally”, “You’ve Got Mail”, “IQ” and “Sleepless in Seattle”.

“It was a little bit of a conscious decision to not do it as much. It’s just got to be right, because, you know, my mom is the undisputed queen of rom-coms. So I can’t just get into that space, it’s got to be right,” said Quaid, who starred opposite Maya Erskine in the 2019 critically acclaimed rom-com “Plus One.”

“So I can’t just get into that space, it’s got to be right. It’s got to be something that feels different enough from what she’s done. I’m not looking to take her place or anything.”

The “nepo baby” debate intensified in Hollywood after a new York Magazine story article that explored how family connections help children of celebrities an advantage over others in the industry.
