Jammu Police recover 33 kg of heroin worth Rs 33 crore, arrest one suspect
Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], August 9 (ANI): Jammu police seized 33 kilograms of heroin worth Rs 33 crore and arrested a suspect on Friday, officials said.
“Jammu Police has recovered drugs worth approximately Rs 33 crores from Jammu bus stand area. The Jammu bus stand got information that 2 suspicious men were carrying a heavy bag and were coming to the bus stand from the border area. We cordoned off the area and searched,” Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Jammu Anand Jain told reporters here.
“One of the men was arrested and the bag was searched and recovered heroin worth approximately Rs 33 crore or more…,” ADGP Jain added.
“It was a finer kind of heroin weighing around 33 kilograms,” ADGP Jain said.
He said that an investigation is underway into the matter.
An official statement released on Friday said Police Station Bus Stand Jammu received reliable information today that one person, Harmeet Singh (name changed), a resident of Punjab was coming from Akhnoor towards the bus stand with a huge consignment of Heroin-like substance.”
“Accordingly, a special Naka was laid by the police party and said the suspect was apprehended tactfully with a bag carrying 26 packets weighing approximately 33 kgs of Heroin substance,” it added.
“In this regard, FIR 41/2024 u/s 8,21,22 NDPS Act registered in PS Bus Stand. Prima facie it appears that the accused obtained the consignment from border areas and was taking it to Punjab,” the statement added.
