Jammu University Department of Psychology celebrates World Mental Health day

JAMMU, October 10: The Department of Psychology, University of Jammu, celebrated World Mental Health Day on October 10, 2023, with the theme “Mental Health is a Universal Human Right”. Prof. Sangita Gupta, Dean of Social Sciences, was the chief guest for the event. The session started with a welcome note by Taniya Chauhan.

The occasion was graced by the HOD, Prof. Satnam Kour, Dr. Sarita Sood, Dr. Dharvinder Singh, Dr. Karuna Gupta, Dr. Princy Koul, Dr. Lovely Sabarwal, Dr. Mirdula Bali, and also the scholars and students of the respective departments. Prof. Sangita Gupta enlightened the participants with her valuable thoughts about the importance of mental health. Drawing from her profound expertise, she elucidated how mental illness is considered a stigma and ignorance in people towards mental issues. She detailed how interaction with others in our community is important for good mental health. Further, Prof. Satnam Kour shed light on how to remain mentally healthy and support each other’s lives with positivity.

Students in the department actively participated in various activities. The posters on the theme of World Mental Health Day, “Mental Health is a Universal Human Right,” were made. Presentations on mental health were given by the students and scholars of the department. Various engaging activities such as Mental Health Word Puzzle, Deep-Breathing Exercise, Live Life in Colours, Mental Health Check in, etc also adorned the event. The event saw robust participation not only from the students, scholars, and esteemed faculty members of the respective department but also from the other departments of the university.

The event was summed up with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sarita Sood, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology. She thanked Dr. Sangita Gupta for her valuable time. She also thanked the HOD, Prof. Satnam Kour, faculty members, scholars, and students for their presence and participation. She concluded this event by giving the message that taking care of mental health is a great investment. We should take care of ourselves and love ourselves.
