Jammu University organises lecture on ‘Criminal Proceedings’
Jammu, May 31 :- The Department of Law, University of Jammu organised lecture on “Criminal Proceedings” by Mf Iqbal SIngh, Chief Prosecuting Officer (Retd).
Mr. Iqbal Singh explained the practical aspects of litigation and the workings of the courts. He said that the uniform of an advocate has substantial value. It has an honour, and it must be maintained. He gave various practical inputs to the budding advocates and highlighted the importance of language skills, especially Urdu and English, for the students. He also gave a list of important Urdu terminologies used in the courts, especially in J&K. He has practical insights into the reading of the filing of an FIR, the challan, and the examination of witnesses. He also gave a demonstration of the examination of witnesses to the students. He also highlighted the importance of professional ethics in courts and how it can have an impact on the client. He also highlighted the importance of medical jurisprudence in criminal trials.
Prof. Satinder Kumar, Head and Dean, Department of Law, in his welcome address introduced the esteemed guest speaker, Mr. Iqbal Singh, Chief Prosecuting Officer (Retd.), a renowned legal expert with over 40 years of experience in criminal law, who delivered the lecture. Mr. Iqbal Singh has an exceptional background in the field and has successfully handled numerous high-profile criminal cases.He also highlighted the various initiatives taken by the department, including the Law Lecture Series. This is the fourth lecture in the current series. He further emphasised that the Law Lecture Series is an initiative by the Department of Law to promote academic discourse and foster a deeper understanding of legal matters. By organising lectures delivered by distinguished professionals and scholars, the series aims to bridge the gap between theory and practise. Prof. Sanjay Gupta presented formal a vote of thanks. The organising committee included Dr. Raj K. Sandhu and students Mr. Sunny Singh and Ms. Dhanakshi Pandita were also present on the occasion.
