Jammu September 04: University of Jammu today organized a Curtain Raiser Press Conference on the eve of its foundation day to be celebrated on 5th September, 2023. On this occasion, Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu while chairing the press conference shared that the Foundation Day is an occasion to bring together all the students and scholars; the staff: Non Gazetted and Non Teaching, the officers, the alumni, the teachers and the civil community to come together and take account of our collective contribution, ownership and efforts. “It is also an occasion to share the achievements of the University in the past one year”, Prof. Rai added. Prof. Rai further informed that Sh. Manoj Sinha, Lieutenant Governor J&K UT and Chancellor, University of Jammu shall be the Chief Guest on the occasion while Sh. Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor,  Lieutenant Governor J&K UT shall be the Guest of Honour.

          “The recent nomination of the University by the UGC as the nodal University to lead the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has indisputably claimed the status of the University of Jammu  in Academic Leadership”, said Prof. Rai.

This, he said, came on the heels of the widely acclaimed New Innovative Programme “Design Your Degree” recently launched by the University and showcased during the Two-Days Akhil Bhartiya Siksha Samagam-2023 at IECC, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on 29th July 2023. Designed in consultation with experts across a wide spectrum, this programme focuses on holistic development of young minds and sets the tone for transdisciplinary knowledge and is thus in true spirit of NEP-2020 as envisaged by the Prime Minister of India, said the Vice Chancellor.He also shared that among various other initiatives planned by the Higher Education Council, J&K Government, the University of Jammu is spearheading a unique and innovative project “College on Wheels” or “JK Gyanodaya” through which t about 800 students along with 100 faculty members from various Universities of J&K shall undertake the journey covering various parts of India.

The Vice chancellor further informed that the first of its kind in the history of J&K, the Community Radio established in the University of Jammu shall be inaugurated by the Lieutenant Governor J&K UT and Chancellor, University of Jammu on  the Foundation Day. The radio shall act as a medium to promote, propagate and disseminate the polyvocal and polylingual voices of the various stakeholders of the University and act as site of exchange for various ideas culminating in motivating the people to participate in the national endeavour for integrated development of the country, he said.

Speaking earlier on the occasion, Prof. Rajni Kant, Dean Research Studies  said that the “Foundation Day is an occasion to retrace the glorious past of the University and honour the contribution of its employees who have contributed in various capacities in this progress of the University”.

Pof. Neelu Rohmetra, Director, DD&OE, while addressing the media shared , the Directorate of Distance and Online Education has launched online M.Com and M.A.(English) courses making the University of Jammu the first in the UT of J&K to offer such online programmes under UGC-DEB regulations 2020. This shall also widen the reach of the opportunity to study for the students of the far flung areas of the region. This initiative shall transform the pedagogic landscape for the Distance Education learner and the dynamics of distance learning. She further shared that the Business School has launched a two-year Executive MBA program in blended mode that is first of its kind in the UT of J&K.

Prof. Meena sharma, Dean Planning also spoke about the various initiatives being undertaken by the university under the visionary leadership of the Vice Chancellor.

Prof. Rahul Gupta, Registrar, University of Jammu also shared the nostalgia of the 54 years of journey of the University.

The programme was conducted by Dr. Vinay Thussoo, Incharge Media and the welcome address was delivered by Dr. Garima Gupta, Convener, Media and Publicity Committee.
