JJM Stakeholder’s Handholding cum Awareness programme held at Shopian
ADC calls for restoring and conserving water bodies through govt, community led initiatives
SHOPIAN, APRIL 08: The Project Management Consultancy, Mission Directorate, Jal Jeevan Mission, J&K, in collaboration with District Jal Jeevan Mission, Shopian today conducted a day-long mega handholding cum awareness program at Auditorium of Imtiyaz Memorial Govt.Degree College, Shopian.
The sessions witnessed participation of various stakeholders including PRIs, Pani Samiti members, field staff of Jal Shakti Department, Poshan Abhiyan, Health viz. ASHAs, AWWs, District Project Management Unit JJM Staff, Implementation Support Agency, water testing lab staff and FTK Trained Women from various panchayats and teachers.
The programme was presided over by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Shopian, Yar Ali Khan.
Nizam Mansoori, Team member, Project Management Consultancy, conducted a session wherein he highlighted the various aspects of Jal Jeevan Mission, water management and overall conservation measures and the importance of Jal Jeevan Mission for ensuring adequate, clean tap water to every household.
Rajesh explained in detail the role and duties of various stakeholders including Pani samitis and shared best practices of water management and rain water harvesting with the audience and motivated them to play their role in a missionary zeal towards fulfilling the vision of JJM.
Through Audio Visual an aid, the essence of Jal Jeevan Mission was highlighted, water harvesting, water conservation issues were elaborated.
In another session, a live demonstration of Water Testing on Field Testing Kits was presented by Water Testing Staff before the stakeholders in order to train them.
SE on the occasion highlighted the series of steps undertaken in the district for successful implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission and also emphasized on encouraging local communities to take over the rural water supply system for operation and maintenance, and help the administration so that the “Har Ghar Nal se Jal “ mission is successful.
He also briefed that various JJM schemes have been approved in the district and are presently going on at full pace and works are targeted for completion within timelines.
ADC, Yar Ali Khan while speaking on the occasion dealt with the issue of pollution of water bodies and said that careless dumping of waste into water bodies/ sources has aggravated the water scarcity problem and the need is to arrest this trend by community mobilisation and action.
Saying that though the department is duty bound to provide universal quality tap water to all through JJM , but at the same time, people need to be responsible at individual and collective fronts in preserving water bodies and using water judiciously in view of scarce availability of water resources.
We need to contribute individually and collectively to make efforts for judicious use of water resources, said ADC while advising to conduct such training programmes in other areas of the district.
Superintending Engineer Hydraulic circle, Pulwama/ Shopian, G.R.Laherwal Executive Engineer, A.R Wani District Information Officer (IEC Coordinator, District Shopian), Showkat Hussain Ganie, AEEs, AE DPMU and other officers of various departments attended the programme.
