J&K police thwart bovine smuggling attempt in Jammu, rescue 10 animals
In a swift operation, the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) foiled a bovine smuggling attempt in the Jammu district. Alert officials from Police Station Bakshinagar acted on a tip-off and intercepted a truck carrying cattle illegally at Maheshpura Chowk.
The police party successfully rescued 10 bovines from the vehicle and seized the truck, bearing registration number JK21A-8257. The driver of the truck is reported to have fled the scene, and a search is underway to apprehend the culprit.

This incident comes as part of the ongoing efforts by the JKP under ‘Operation Kamdhenu’ to crack down on cattle smuggling in the region. The rescued bovines are likely to be handed over to a cattle shelter after undergoing a veterinary checkup.
The police have registered a case FIR No. 62/2024 at Police Station Bakshi Nagar under relevant sections of the law, including the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Transport of Animals Rules. The investigation into the smuggling attempt is underway.
