JKAACL and Sahitya Akademi organised Symposium on Dogri Poetry

Jammu, March 22: Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi, in collaboration with the J&K Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages, Jammu, organized a Symposium on Dogri poetry titled “Figure of Speech, Usage of Sentiments, and Meter in Dogri Poetry” at K.L. Saigal Hall, Jammu.

The symposium aimed to delve into the intricacies of Dogri poetry, exploring its rich tradition, linguistic nuances, and thematic evolution. Scholars, writers, and enthusiasts congregated to celebrate the essence of Dogri literature, engaging in discussions on its figures of speech, sentiment utilization, and meter.

The event commenced with a warm Welcome Address and Introductory Remarks by Mohan Singh, Convener of the Dogri Advisory Board at Sahitya Akademi.Professor Archana Kesar, a distinguished Dogri writer, delivered the Keynote Address, setting the stage for the day’s intellectual discourse.

Padma Shri Dr. Jitender Udhampuri, eminent Dogri writer, delivered the Presidential Address, highlighting the cultural and literary significance of Dogri poetry.

The Symposium featured two sessions, each comprising insightful presentations and discussions chaired by eminent personalities in the field of Dogri literature.

In the First Session, chaired by Dr. Gian Singh, notable Dogri writer, papers were presented by Dr. Sarita Khajuria, focusing on Dogri poetry from 1980 to 1990, and Ashok Ambar, exploring the poetry of the 1990s.

The Second Session commenced under the chairmanship of Puran Chander Sharma, a prominent Dogri poet. Prakash Premi presented his analysis of Dogri poetry from 2000 to 2010, while Raaj Manawari delved into the poetry of the subsequent decade, from 2010 to 2020.

The Symposium provided a platform for scholars and enthusiasts to engage in meaningful dialogue, reflecting on the evolution and contemporary relevance of Dogri poetry. It underscored the importance of preserving linguistic heritage and nurturing regional literary traditions.

Reeta Khadyal, Assistant Editor, Dogri at the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, extended a heartfelt Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants, organizers, and supporters of the event.

The Symposium concluded on a note of intellectual stimulation and cultural enrichment, reaffirming the enduring legacy of Dogri literature and its vital role in the tapestry of Indian literary heritage.
