JKPCC Observes National Pollution Control Day to Commemorate Bhopal Gas Tragedy Victims
JAMMU, December 02: Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Committee today observed “National Pollution Control Day” here at Kalika Bhawan, Railhead Complex.
The gathering observed two minute silence in the memory of Bhopal Gas Tragedy victims.
The Chairman, JKPCC deliberated upon a wide range of environmental issues and measures to prevent pollution. He suggested having a common platform for discussion among the regulators, implementing agencies and waste generators including different associations to understand the need to take preventive measures by one and all to save the planet.
President of Industries Association Gangyal, Bari Brahmana and Samba also participated in the event. Members of different Eco-clubs from Government Degree Colleges of alongwith their coordinators also participated in the event.
The address was delivered by the Member Secretary, JKPCC who also briefed the participants for adoption of waste minimization and recycling measures for prevention of pollution.
The Regional Director, JKPCC, welcomed all the participants and impressed upon all participants to work with commitment at their levels to ensure wide awareness among general masses to take small steps at household level and at the level of departments and Industries to prevent pollution at source level. The Presentation on the trends of abatement of pollution of air and water and strategies and approaches adopted for prevention and abatement of pollution through cost effective technologies was given by the Environmental Engineer of JKPCC.
The Guest Speakers on the occasion were Dr. Deepika Slathia, Associate Professor, Department of Environment Jammu University and Dr. Shaweta Yadav, Sr. Asstt. Prof. Central University who gave a presentation on water pollution and water conservation measures and bio-mass burning and its control.
The participants resolved to make necessary lifestyle changes to mitigate the problem of pollution in general and for protection of the ozone layer in particular.
