JKRLM Shopian organises Orientation Programme

SHOPIAN, APRIL 11: To strengthen the roots of women Empowerment, a day-long orientation and deliverance of awareness on departmental schemes was carried by NRLM and Allied Line Departments which include Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry , Handloom and Handicraft and Krishi Vegiyan Kendra Shopian at Jammu & Kashmir Rural Livelihoods Mission (UMEED) office Shopian today.

Raja Wahid DDC Member Shopian was the Chief Guest on the occasion who in his  speech stressed that gender equality and women empowerment will require significant efforts both from the government side as well as from the civil society which will go hand to hand in having long lasting results on ground. 

Further he said that government’s support for women empowerment is in its fullest bloom which is significant from the current departmental schemes where a separate quota or percentage is being kept reserved for the women populace.

He further added that if women populace are provided a conducive environment they would not let a single stone unturned to reach their sustainable livelihood goals. He said that women entrepreneurs are the booming structured pillars of current society who are now mastering the dairy farming, sheep rearing, and apiculture.

District Programme Manager, Financial Inclusion, Irfan Basheer disseminated awareness among the participants about the efforts laid down for availing hassle free financial support from department as well as  from allied banking Institutions.He further added that in financial year 2022-23 besides the capitalization from department, an amount of 3.435 crore has been availed from banks in district Shopain by SHG members of UMEED for setting their rural livelihoods in their community set ups.

The representatives from allied departments highlighted one by one their  schemes which included National Livestock Mission, Integrated Dairy Development Scheme(IDDS), Kissan Credit Card and value addition benefits .The sheep Husbandry carried orientation with respect to their departmental schemes which include integrated Sheep Development Scheme(ISDS) and Mini Sheep Farm Unit

District Programme Manager Livelihoods  Uzma Mehraj provided vote of thanks to the officials from concerned departments for their utmost support in conducting such orientation programmes which is the need for strengthening the rural women populace through these programmes.
