Joint inspection squad conducts surprise inspection of schools, stationery shops

Takes strict action against violators

JAMMU, April 24: The Joint Inspection Squad of the Legal Metrology Department on Monday conducted Market Inspections following complaints against the private schools received in the office of Deputy Commissioner, Jammu.

The teams conducted surprise inspections of several schools and stationery shops to investigate the complaints, in accordance with the provisions of the Legal Metrology Act, 2009.

The team seized certain products during the proceedings and persons/firms/schools were booked by the Legal Metrology Department under relevant provisions on the subject.

Challans were also issued in 24 instances against various schools and stationery shops by the Legal Metrology department which  shall be lodged in the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Jammu for trial, if the schools and stationery shops failed to submit an application for compounding or file an appeal.

Pertinent to mention that relevant orders, circulars and rules have been issued by the Office of Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Directorate of School Education and Chief Education Officer, Jammu to ensure that necessary action would be taken against private schools and stationery shops, if found violating the rules and provisions.

It was informed that similar drives will continue to counter illegal practices if resorted by the private schools and stationery shops.
