JU Celebrates National Mathematics Day on Birth Anniversary of legendary Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan
Jammu, Dec 22: The National Mathematics Day in India is celebrated on December 22 every year to mark the Birth Anniversary of the legendary Indian Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan (1887-1920).
The Department of Mathematics, University of Jammu, celebrated National Mathematics Day, by organizing a lecture by an eminent mathematician Dr. B. Sury, Professor of Mathematics at Indian Statistical Institute, Bangalore. On this auspicious day, Professor Sury talked about the discoveries made by Ramanujan and their impact on mathematics.
Before Prof. Sury’s lecture, Prof. K. S. Charak, HOD Mathematics, gave an introduction to the National Mathematics Day celebrated on December 22 every year and its objectives besides introducing the main speaker of the function.
Also, there were five presentations by PG students of the Department of Mathematics on the life and contributions of Srinivasa Ramanujan, the legendary Indian mathematician. The function was attended by all faculty members of the department, all Research Scholars and all PG students of the department.
