JU organises an outreach/extension activity for the students of Bee Enn College of Nursing, Chak Bhalwal
Jammu, May 25– School of Biotechnology, University of Jammu organised an outreach extension activity for the students of Bee Enn College of Nursing and Paramedical students.About 70 students of B.Sc. Nursing and B.Sc. Paramedical along with Mrs. Radhika Sharma, Associate professor in Microbiology at Bee Enn College of Nursing visited School of Biotechnology under extension and outreach program. At the outset, Prof. Sanjana Kaul, Director, School of Biotechnology, welcomed the gathering and enlightened the students with the importance and scope of Microbiology.
She further highlighted the contribution of the School of Biotechnology during the corona pandemic in the form of manpower and infrastructure thereby highlighting the importance of their subject and profession. She urged the students to take the optimum benefit of their visit and interact with faculty and research scholars. Students visited various laboratories of the School such as Fungal Biotechnology, Fermentation Technology, Plant genomics, Metagenomics, Immunogenetics, Plant Molecular Biology, Animal cell Culture, Special Facility etc. and were briefed about the different facilities available pertaining to the microbiology programme. Students were educated about the research interest of each lab and also got acquainted with various scientific equipments and microbial techniques such as sterlisation techniques, cultivation of microbes on synthetic media, PCR techniques etc.
Fascinated by the research in microbiology in SBT, students were inquisitive and interacted with scholars from each lab. Other faculty members of the School also interacted with the students and motivated them for their future endeavours.
Needless to mention, School of Biotechnology is hosting three masters programmes in Biotechnology, Biochemistry and Microbiology and has state of the art infrastructure funded by various national funding agencies like DBT, DST, SERB, RUSA, PURSE and also has international collaborations. School has been conducting such outreach and extension activities where students from other schools and colleges are permitted to visit the research facilities to inculcate scientific temperament among them. The outreach and extension programme was coordinated by Dr. Sheetal Ambardar, Dr. Yashpal Khajuria and Dr. Sakshi Sharma, Faculty of SBT.
