JUICCASH organises Awareness Lecture on Prevention of Sexual Harassment in Educational Institutions
DC Jammu delivers keynote address, says women must come forward to file complaint
JAMMU, February 20: Jammu University Internal Complaints Committee Against Sexual Harassment (JUICCASH), in collaboration with Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu on Monday organised a one day Awareness Lecture on Prevention of Sexual Harassment in Educational Institutions.
Deputy Commissioner Jammu Avny Lavasa and Presiding Officer, JUICCASH, Prof Namrata Sharma were the main speakers.
In her keynote address, the Deputy Commissioner underlined the need to aware the students about the importance of prevention and reporting of the sexual harassment in workplaces as more and more females are joining jobs and universities for higher education.
She also cleared certain doubts regarding different types of crimes committed against women in general and at workplaces in particular and said that women should not ignore such acts and bring the culprits to the book.
The Deputy Commissioner said that first of all women need to know about their legal rights against sexual harassment and do not hesitate in filing complaint, if anyone faces the same. She also said that now women are very much aware about their rights but a lot more is needed to be done.
Prof Namrata Sharma said this lecture was organised to educated the students, both males and females how they can handle the incidences of sexual harassment in educational institutions.
If any female student is facing sexual harassment in University of Jammu, she should report to JUICCASH Committee and they are free to interact with any member, she added.
