Kathua Campus (Jammu university) organized its 4th Extension Outreach Programme on Skill Development and Women Entrepreneurship 

KATHUA, April 27: Kathua Campus, University of Jammu organized 4th Outreach Extension Programme on “Skill Development and Women Entrepreneurship” at its adopted village Kathera to develop skills among women folk of the village that will lead them for better livelihood, economic independence and the ability to earn for their families.

The training programme was attended by more than 100 women from Kathera and adjoining villages. Besides, 150 students from Government Higher Secondary School, Kathera and Kathua Campus, University of Jammu also participated in the said activity.

Various artisans and trainers including Ms. Vaishali , Ms. Meena Rani, Ms. Neetu, Ms. Kiran Sharma, Ms. Jyoti Sharma, Ms. Seema Devi, Ms. Parveen Kumari, Ms. Shabnam Khajuria, Ms. Gurpreet Kour, Ms. Priyanka Sharma, Ms. Bharti, Mr. Rajinder Kumar and Smt. Ayodhya Devi imparted the skills for making Jute Bags, Spices, Pickles, Keychains, Khoya, Packaged Multigrain Atta, Bamboo crafts, Polyester Bags, Dori Work, Cushion Work, Beetroot and Spinach Atta, Shawl Kadhai, embroidery accessories, Crochet Knitting etc. to women present at the event.

Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Rector Kathua Campus, University of Jammu said that this activity was intended to help women of the adopted village Kathera to strengthen their skills and aid them for self- employment in order to ensure empowerment. It is to be mentioned here that Kathua Campus, University of Jammu adopted this village a few months ago and three activities viz.

Cleanliness Drive Trek, Gender Sensitization & Career Counselling and Drug Abuse: Problem, Management and Prevention along with Stationery Distribution Drive have already been organized by Kathua Campus in this region till now. Dr. Meenakshi Kilam further highlighted the importance of these type of skill development programmes at grassroot level for the welfare of the society and suggested them to get benefit out of various skill development schemes of the Indian Government including Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), Pradhan Mantri YUVA Yojana, Skill Loan Scheme, Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS) etc. Further, she reiterated that Kathua Campus shall contribute tirelessly for the progressive development of Kathera village so that it can usher in the era of development.

While speaking on the occasion, Sh. Ganesh Dutt (Retd. Zonal Education Officer), Sh. Devinder Shastri (Retd. Zonal Education Planning Officer) and Ms. Kamlesh Kumari suggested the women to work on the various resources available at village Kathera including Kulath Dal, Amla, Baheda, Khoya, Bamboo, Curry Patta etc. Ms. Arti Sharma (Cluster Coordinator, Self Help Group, Barnoti) said that her team shall always be ready in future also for such nice initiatives to train the women with these skills. Sh. Ashok Sharma, Principal, Government Higher Secondary School, Kathera thanked Dr. Meenakshi Kilam, Rector Kathua Campus, University of Jammu under whose visionary leadership such initiatives have been undertaken in village Kathera.

Dr. Sourabh Shastri, Incharge Head (Computer Science), Kathua Campus, University of Jammu and Organizing Secretary of the activity welcomed the artisans, special guests and esteemed speakers at the occasion and apprised the participants regarding the relevance of such training programmes to empower the society.

The Special Guests from Panchayat Kathera who attended the programme were Sh. Joginder Singh (Naib Sarpanch, Kathera), Smt. Trishla Devi (Panch, Ward No. 2, Kathera) and Sh. Mohinder Singh (Panch, Sangan).

Ms. Ritika Goyal, Coordinator of the programme delivered vote of thanks. Mr. Pranav Ratta, Dr. Sunny Sharma, Mr. Gaurav Sharma, Ms. Avni Sharma, Ms. Tiharika Nath, Ms. Kamakshi, Sh. Avtar Singh (Retd. JCO) and other faculty members of Kathua Campus were also present during the programme.
