Kerala Blasters FC fans are key to my contract extension: Sandeep Singh
Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], August 3 (ANI): Sandeep Singh has emerged as one of Kerala Blasters’ most influential players over the past few Indian Super League (ISL) seasons. Since joining the club in 2020, the full-back has continuously improved, establishing himself as a key defender. His growth and resilience have made him a fundamental part of the team’s defence.
Singh has now committed to a new three-year contract with the Blasters, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2027. Over the past four seasons, he has made 58 appearances for the Blasters across various competitions. With his new deal, Singh is eager to take on an even greater role in the team’s future endeavours, as per a release by ISL.
Singh spoke to Kerala Blasters FC media following the announcement of his contract extension, expressing his excitement about the future with the club. During his interview, he reminisced about some of the most cherished moments he has experienced since joining the team.
“We played in the thrilling ISL final match of the 2021-22 season (against Hyderabad FC), and in the 2022-23 season, when I scored against Odisha FC. These were my best moments with Kerala Blasters FC,” Singh told Kerala Blasters FC media.
His goal against Odisha FC proved pivotal that day, and Singh is determined to continue making such impactful contributions to the club. He is focused on helping Kerala Blasters achieve their long-sought ambition of winning their first major trophy, a goal they will be relentlessly pursuing this season.
“My main objective is to win both the League Shield and the Cup,” Singh stated as he set his goals for the team upon signing the new contract.
Singh is currently one of the longest-serving players at the club, alongside Rahul KP, who joined in 2019. Singh reflects on his evolving relationship with the club and discusses his interactions with Sporting Director Karolis Skinkys.
“I believe the relationship over the years has grown quite well, and he (Karolis) is good to everyone. I want to thank the management for giving me this opportunity,” he said.
Kerala Blasters FC have changed the head coach role and Singh will be looking to further develop under the new head coach, Mikael Stahre.
The Blasters have embarked on a new era under the Swedish coach with an impressive 8-0 victory over Mumbai City FC’s reserve team in their opening Durand Cup fixture. As a senior squad member, Singh discusses the preparations so far under Stahre and offers insights on the role he envisions for the younger players, the release added.
“With the new coaching staff, formation, and style, I think things will go well. I feel that understanding the game and establishing connections among us is beneficial for everyone. I will encourage the youngsters to focus on teamwork because it is key to success. I think our squad is strong, especially with the new players. I believe we can achieve our goals,” stated the right-back,” Singh said
Singh spoke highly of the dressing room culture at the club and praised the management’s role in fostering unity among all the players.
“I think it is a strong area that we are proud of in the KBFC family and all the credit goes to the management. They have treated us like a family since day one,” he said.
The 29-year-old expressed his gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support throughout the years. He also highlighted that their steadfast backing was a significant reason behind his decision to renew his contract.
“I want to thank the fans for their support. Their support was one of the main reasons behind me extending my contract. I would tell them to ‘Keep supporting us–your support is our strength,’ Singh commented.
