Kishtwar hosts 3-day training programme on drug abuse detection and management

KISHTWAR, March 23: As part of the ongoing Youth Festival Celebrations in Kishtwar district, a three-day training programme on Early Detection of Drug Abuse and Post Detection Management was held at the Conference Hall of the DC Office complex today. 

The event was organised under the management of the Social Welfare Department, in which more than 500 participants participated, including Youth Club volunteers, NSS volunteers, students, AWWs, ASHAs and NGO members.

Deputy Commissioner, Dr Devansh Yadav and SSP Kishtwar, Khalil Ahmed Poswal inaugurated the training programme. 

District Social Welfare Officer Kishtwar Zubair Ahmed presented a welcome address and highlighted issues associated with drug abuse. Resource persons from Jammu & Kashmir Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses gave a presentation on various aspects of drug abuse and post-detection management. 

Dr Haris of Addiction Treatment Facility at DH Kishtwar spoke on early identification of drug abuse and how it can be managed with the help of addiction facility centres.

During the event, the Deputy Commissioner spoke about the role of government and private agencies in early detection and post-management of drug abuse. He highlighted the interventions adopted by the district administration in collaboration with the Police Department and other stakeholders to curb drug abuse in the district. 

He said, that nasha-mukt panchayats will be accomplished through panchayat resolution and line listing of all addicts and peddlers. Clinical interventions for addicts and police action against peddlers will be taken, along with rehabilitation through youth clubs.

SSP Kishtwar also spoke about the roles and responsibilities of parents, peers and different stakeholders in early detection and post-detection management.

The training programme was attended by District Social Welfare Officer, Zubair Ahmed; Chief Medical Officer, Dr Mohd Youqub Mir; Nodal Officer Addiction Facility Centre, Dr Arif besides others.
